Today I
will be reviewing the latest AVTECH AVN801 All-In-One HD IP Camera.
This IP
Camera was brought out due to the success of its predecessor the AVN80X which
is their Full function model.
AVTECH
wanted an IP Camera that everyone could try and experience the advantages of
their famous Push Video 5-sec Event Notification, yet they did not want to
compromise build quality and image resolution, they have in fact improved image
quality and doing so have made the AVN801 around 40% cheaper than that of the
AVN80X.
For this
test I set up the AVN801 in two locations. 1.
at my workplace to show how good the image quality is and 2. Monitoring my driveway to see who comes there when I’m not home.
This
model is an indoor model however I Installed mine under an eave protected from
the rain and wind. I then installed a clear weatherproof dome around it and
sealed it to further protect it from the elements.

was installed
I wanted
to be able to see when the courier dropped off parcels while I was at work and
with Push Video Notifications turned ON through EagleEyes I could see exactly
when, and at what time they got delivered. With MOTION+PIR enabled it also
eliminates a lot of false alarms associated with other brand name cameras.

To make the AVN801 wireless the Sapido RB-1602 Mini Light N+ Router is a great choice.
Setup
One
of the new features that I think is great is AVTECH’S Free DDNS Server.
AVTECH
DDNS service is rendered free of charge, so users can get DDNS service by quick
signup, ridding the need of filling in personal information. This is perfect
for those who don’t have a fixed IP Address.
I
however have a fixed IP Address and therefore once the correct port forwarding
has been done the AVN801 really is a Plug and Play Camera and can be up and
running in under 15 minutes to view remotely anywhere in the world where an
internet/WiFi or 3G reception is available.
You
will need to download the AVTECH CMS viewing software “VideoViewer” to take
full advantage of the AVN801 and to adjust all its great features. This
software is what is needed if you want to record and playback footage longer
than what the AVN801 internal storage can hold.

Push Video, 5-sec Event Video Call
This is
what makes this IP camera different from the rest. When an event occurs, Push
Video is triggered when it detects MOTION+PIR, to prevent false alarms when
only motion is detected. For example, sometimes if a car passes by, some other
brands of cameras will be triggered. With the AVN801 it will provide you with a
more specific alarm notification. The AVN801 will then immediately make a video
call to your iPad, iPhone, Android phone or Android Smart Pad. You will be able
to watch real time surveillance of what just triggered the alarm and you will
be able to take action straight away for whatever application you are using it
for. You can then back up the videos with the use of EagleEyes Plus and even
choose to back up on your phone or send as an email.
EagleEyes is powerful software and it’s free
to use*
The AVN801
can be controlled through EagleEyes from anywhere in the world where there is
Wi-Fi or 3G reception. You can control the AVN801 using the built in Digital
Zoom feature of the camera to digitally zoom in and out remotely and also
control the function to increase or decrease lighting conditions. The camera
also has a microphone so that you can listen to what sounds are present.

Summary/Conclusion:
Overall
the AVN801 is a great little IP Camera and it will certainly do the job that
you want for the price.
Sure it
doesn’t have a lot of the features that the AVN80X has and you certainly do
miss some of them especially since I got to test the AVN80X before the AVN801
and therefore was a little let down in it at first but if the price is right it
will be a winner.
The image
quality is superb and I’m very impressed with that side of the camera.
A couple
of things worth mentioning about the AVN801 is the lack of internal memory
needed for backup and multiple Push Video Alarms. This however can be overcome
by backing up the videos on your PC with VideoViewer.

I hope in
the next model they either bring back the built-in micro SD Card reader or
perhaps a larger internal memory.
Another
thing that was noticeably different was the viewing angle. The AVN801 has a
viewing angle of 62.7 degrees; however, the AVN80X has a 80.4 degree viewing
angle which gives you that little more field of view.
Stay tuned
as AVTECH will be releasing their future wireless version the AVN812 Push Video
HD IP Camera very soon!!!
